One listing, one feed, seven destinations. A guide to automated distribution, and the traps to know before wiring it all up.

Publishing to seven portals without losing your morning

One property, five portals, five back offices, five ways of describing the same thing. Multi-portal distribution is the least rewarding job in an agency, and the most expensive one to get wrong — because a missing listing is invisible.

One feed, not five forms

Modern distribution is not about filling in the same form five times, faster. It is about producing ONE description of your portfolio, in a format portals can read, and making it available to them.

In practice: your property record feeds an XML file. Portals come and fetch it, or it is delivered to them. You correct the price in one place, and the correction spreads at each channel's own pace.

You are not publishing five listings. You are keeping a portfolio up to date, and five portals subscribe to it.

Most of the work is handling failures

Portals reject listings for reasons that are usually trivial: a missing postcode, a floor area of zero, a photo too small, an expired token. These rejections are silent. Nobody calls to tell you your property is not online.

That is where a distribution tool earns its keep. Not in the sending — in the feedback. Hussteer tracks four states, and that is deliberately few:

  • Queued: distribution has been requested, nothing has left yet.
  • Running: the channel is processing the request.
  • Success: the portal accepted it.
  • Error: it refused, and the reason is shown.

An error state is not a technical incident to escalate to support. It is a business task: a postcode is missing, someone needs to type it in. That is what the control screen is for.

Fix once, not channel by channel

When three portals reject the same listing, they almost always reject it for the same reason. Fixing the record once and retrying the affected channels beats opening three back offices — and it leaves a usable trail.

What distribution will never do for you

No feed will rescue a badly written listing, three dark photos or a price above the market. Distribution solves a plumbing problem, not a selling problem. It gives you back the time you spent retyping — what you do with it is up to you.
